Barcelona and injuries are two things that seem to be inseparable this season.
Since the beginning of the new 2019/20 campaign, the Catalans have suffered a total of 16 fitness setbacks with some of their players getting injured more than just once and suffering relapses.
One such player is Jordi Alba, the 30-year-old left-back who’s been in and out of the squad multiple times.

Seeing how he is a regular first-teamer, this was definitely a headache for Ernesto Valverde, especially since he doesn’t seem to trust Junior Firpo, Alba’s supposed replacement, with the coach’s treatment of the newcomer quite baffling.
But all of that could’ve potentially been avoided had Barcelona not decided to cast away their La Masia talent, Marc Cucurella.
The 21-year-old player is currently on loan at Getafe where he is having quite a good season.
In fact, Cucurella was practically the biggest shining light in their latest goalless draw against Osasuna just the other night.
He tallied three key passes and 86 touches on the night, both of which were the highest figures across the whole squad, which immediately emphasises his importance.
But he also did the defensive part of the work, registering two tackles and getting one interception under his belt in the process.
Not to mention that he was a real threat going forward with two dribbles, and was fouled twice as well.
So far, his role at Getafe has varied as he was often deployed in a more advanced position as opposed to his natural left-back spot but that just shows how versatile of a player he actually is.
With all the injuries to Alba and Firpo’s weird situation, the 21-year-old La Masia talent really could’ve been a good asset to Valverde.
We’ll have to wait and see what the Catalans have planned for him in the future.
