According to Mundo Deportivo, Carles Perez will today inform Barcelona if he wants to join AS Roma.

What's the word, then?

The clubs have already agreed on a transfer worth around €15m (£12.6m) and the player is set to either approve or decline the move on Monday. His other suitors include Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Sevilla and Atalanta.

It's claimed Perez wants to join a club that will challenge in European football, but he doesn't want a repurchase clause to be included in the deal - meaning Barcelona won't have the option to buy him back on the cheap.

Verdict

It's always a shame when a La Masia prospect ends up leaving the Blaugrana and this transfer does seem like a big surprise considering that Perez was supposed to play a big role in their campaign.

After all, he was quickly moved up from Barcelona B and even tallied three starts in the first five games, scoring a goal and assisting further two in the process.

Back then, it seemed like he would have a future at the club but now, suddenly, the 21-year-old is close to departing for Italy.

The injuries of Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele put this deal under a question mark even more - Barcelona seem rather thin across the forward line and lacking any real squad depth.

It remains to be seen, however, if they regret letting Perez go.
