Well it’s official. He’s finally managed to break through. After years of promise and potential, Lionel Messi has finally made it to the level where he can finally be crowned La Liga player of the month.
Yes, that’s right, Lionel Messi has been crowned La Liga player of the month for the very first time in his five Ballon d’Or winning career.

In a month, January 2016, where Barcelona score 25 goals, Messi scored 11 of them, meaning that his crowning as player of the month really shouldn’t be a surprise. But for a player who is the undisputed best in the world, you have to ask why last month was more special than any other month in Messi’s career. After all, he’s been this good for a very long time, as evidenced by this, his very first goal for Barcelona on 1st May 2005.
We can only assume that Messi has finally reached the heady level of the likes of Borja Baston and Lucas Perez who both won the award in 2015, but clearly young Lionel has some way to go before he reaches the heights touched by the likes of Celta Vigo’s Nolito and former Arsenal striker Carlos Vela who have won the award twice. Good luck, Leo, your hard work is, apparently, starting to be recognised.
