According to a fresh report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are eyeing a January swoop for a new forward and Krzysztof Piatek - who's been on both Newcastle's and Aston Villa's radar as per The Sun - might be an option.

What's the word, then?

Barcelona are still unsure as to what exactly they should do for the remainder of the January transfer window and, for that reason, a meeting was held on Monday to discuss such matters.

But at the very moment, the Catalan giants have one priority already on the table - a new number nine who could potentially fill in the void left by Luis Suarez's recent injury.

One of the names mentioned is Piatek of AC Milan, who has somewhat fallen down the pecking order at the club with the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as Mundo Deportivo explain.

But the 24-year-old forward was also on Newcastle's and Aston Villa's radars and it seems the Blaugrana might hijack that deal.

Verdict

With Barcelona's Uruguayan Pistolero out for possibly the remainder of the season, it is clear that they will need someone to fill his void, even if it's just on a temporary basis.

Alongside Piatek, however, names like Dani Olmo of Dinamo Zagreb and Pedro Rodriguez of Chelsea were mentioned by Mundo Deportivo, but neither Newcastle nor Aston Villa should be so easily discarded in this race.

Of course, The Sun also state that the Poland international would indeed prefer a club that offers Champions League football and by those standards, both Premier League teams would seemingly get snubbed.

But with just five goals and one assist in a total of 19 games played so far in 2019/20, Piatek is also not really firing on all cylinders and it remains to be seen whether that will dictate Barcelona's interest.

If not, both English outfits just might have a chance of convincing the 24-year-old to reconsider his stance on Champions League football.
