Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is safe in his job at Real Madrid, for now, as axed Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho proved unpopular choice with the fans, report the Daily Mail.
The Portuguese coach had been touted as a potential replacement for Benitez as Los Blancos struggle to get into first gear this term, despite their recent 10-2 win.
Benitez has never been the most universally popular choice in the Spanish capital and has seen his expensively assembled side lose 4-0 to arch rivals Barcelona, as well as being kicked out of the Copa Del Rey for fielding an ineligible player.
However, Spanish newspaper Marca ran a poll of over 64,000 fans asking who should replace the former Liverpool and Chelsea boss if he is axed.
More of the club’s fans want Zinedine Zidane, currently in charge of the B team in Madrid, to be promoted than Mourinho to arrive.
In fact, 52% of those asked said the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ would tear the club in two should he land a return to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The controversial boss, axed by Chelsea last week, had an acrimonious exit from the club back in 2013 after a sour end to his reign as manager.
Despite winning the La Liga title with a record amount of points, he often fell out with top players, including Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos.
