But even though he was theirs relatively early in the window, and even though he took part in all of their pre-season games prior to the new 2019/20 La Liga campaign, it wasn’t until matchday four that Hazard actually made his official competitive debut for Los Blancos under Zinedine Zidane.
And then – right on the hour mark during the game against Levante with the home team 3-1 up and the entire Santiago Bernabeu holding their breath – out came Casemiro and in came the Belgian superstar.
There it was – the image many fans have been eagerly waiting for – Hazard entering the pitch.
Even though the fans saw him play during the pre-season, they still had to wait a couple of weeks to see him make his competitive debut in La Liga.
But he’s here now, and his first official game as one of the Galacticos was a narrow 3-2 win over a courageous Levante.
The Belgian, however, did pretty well and he certainly showed glimpses of what he can and will inevitably do for Real Madrid.
He registered two shots, both on target, one key pass, 90% passing accuracy and tallied one dribble in just over 30 minutes played.
Not a bad start by any means. Of course, his team will expect him to do more as time goes on.
After all, his price tag demands it, his name demands it and at the end of the day, he will probably demand it from himself, having finally taken his first official steps as a Real player.
It all started with this game. Let’s see how it unfolds.
