Charlton Athletic announced on Thursday that Ben Reeves was among the players not to be offered a new contract by the club, and Addicks fans on Twitter were certainly surprised by Lee Bowyer's decision.

Former Reds boss Karl Robinson brought the 27-year-old to The Valley back in the summer of 2017 from MK Dons, and he scored 11 goals and provided a further five assists in 68 appearances in all competitions for the south London outfit.

Injuries did affect the former Southampton youngster and he only played a single minute of football from May 2019 onwards, including their winning play-off campaign.

The versatile midfielder has proved to be a handy player for Athletic at times over the course of the previous two campaigns, but it wasn't enough to convince manager Bowyer that he has a part to play for the side in the Championship and to extend his deal which expires at the end of next month.

Charlton supporters shocked their surprise at the call via social media, with one simply saying "wow" and another saying they were "shocked about Reeves".
