David Prutton thinks Charlton are still reeling from Karlan Grant’s departure

Charlton face Portsmouth this weekend in what is a crucial tie for the Addicks as they look to further establish themselves in the top six. Pompey’s objective is similar – a victory on Saturday will take them a huge eight points clear of their opponents in the standings.

Sky Sports‘ David Prutton has offered his predictions ahead of the game and he thinks that one massive decision is still affecting Charlton.

What’s he said?

Writing in his weekly EFL predictions feature on Sky Sports, Prutton said:

“Charlton still seem to be suffering from the loss of the influential Karlan Grant, as the goals aren’t quite flowing in the same way they were before his departure.

“Portsmouth finally got back to winning ways last Saturday. Bradford looked desperate at Fratton Park but to win for the first time since New Year’s Day will have provided a huge boost in confidence to Kenny Jackett’s side. But I think Charlton will sneak this one.”

Can’t score without Karlan

Grant departed The Valley in January, making the switch to Premier League outfit Huddersfield after an impressive first half of the season in the third tier, in which he chalked up 14 goals and five assists.

Indeed, the goals seem to have exited with the 21-year-old as the Addicks have found the net just five times in their last seven games – a run of form which, if it continues, could see them drop out of the coveted play-off places.

Regardless of a lack of goals, Prutton thinks that Charlton’s fairly solid defensive record will mean they snatch a 1-0 win at The Valley this time out.
