According to a recent Football FanCast poll, the majority of Charlton fans want Lee Bowyer to use any available funds in January to strengthen his defence in order to facilitate a promotion push.

It has been a turbulent start to the season off the field at Charlton during this campaign. Owner Roland Duchatelet has continued in his attempts to sell the club, without success, and the fans have continued to protest against his cost-cutting measures.

According to the Evening Standard, the club have been losing £10m a year since the Belgian’s takeover in 2014.

However, on the pitch Lee Bowyer’s men have been going about their business in League One. The Addicks currently sit in sixth place after 17 games, occupying the final play-off spot that they will be hoping to have secured come the end of the season.

It remains to be seen whether money will be available in January, but if it is then Charlton fans clearly want additions at the back. In fact, 67 per cent of all those who voted in our poll thought that should be the priority for Bowyer.
