Jamal Lowe is one of Portsmouth’s most talented players. The 24-year-old winger has been in fine form for much of the League One season so far, having racked up ten goals and six assists in the league, as per Transfermarkt’s stats.

However, the No. 10’s performances in recent weeks have mirrored the club’s poor results. Pompey are without a win in their last eight league fixtures. Lowe has started in seven of those matches and failed to produce a goal in any.

Kenny Jackett finally took the bold step of the dropping the Englishman for Pompey’s clash with Barnsley on Saturday. Whilst the south coast club could still only manage a 0-0 draw, their performance was much improved. Taking Lowe out of the firing line had the desired effect and was a big gamble that paid off for the boss.

Lowe is still a vital player at Fratton Park, who can contribute plenty before the end of the season. He had been struggling though, and Jackett deserves credit for taking decisive action.
