Rotherham haven't had an easy time in the Championship this season, sitting in the relegation zone a point off Millwall. It looked like they might be getting back on track last month but they've now suffered back-to-back defeats to Norwich and Derby.

There's comfort in the fact they are two of the best teams in the division but if Paul Warne should take anything from being carved open at will in a 6-1 defeat last time out, then it will be to keep Semi Ajayi in defensive midfield.

Write off Derby match

When a team crashes in six goals past you it's easy to focus on the negatives, particularly when you're embroiled in the heat of a relegation battle.

Are fans being priced out of the Championship as well as the Premier League? The angry Bolton fan in the video below certainly believes so...

Rotherham were awful against Derby and Ajayi was particularly outnumbered as the only midfielder to really sit and help the defence. He made three tackles and won three aerial duels but that probably tells you more about the amount of defensive work they were subdued to than how good he was in the game.

The Millers' relegation hopes will depend on results against teams worse off than the likes of Derby so they need to forget about this game. Despite the fact they looked so open and outnumbered in midfield where Ajayi was playing, Warne needs to keep his faith in the 6 ft 3 ace.

Centre-back by trade

The Nigerian international came through the ranks at Charlton and Arsenal as a centre back and it's not been until recently that he's flourished slightly further up the field.

His performances just ahead of the defence have been phenomenal for the Millers and it's largely down to him that they have any chance of survival at all.

As a result, they can't give in to one bad result and move him back into the centre of defence.

The 25-year-old has scored six goals in his last six matches, all from a defensive midfield position, quickly becoming a fan favourite at the New York Stadium.

He already boasted high quality defensive attributes but he's become a powerhouse in midfield and his displays will be crucial as Rotherham bid to stay in the Championship.
