Sheffield Wednesday may have a game later this evening but off the pitch, the club is "working hard" to try and thrash out their transfer business before Friday's deadline.

What's he said?

The Owls face a trip to Wigan Athletic as they look to get their Championship season back on track having lost four of their last five matches.

But with this month's transfer window slamming shut in under four days, time is running out to bolster Garry Monk's playing squad ahead of a potential playoff push.

The 40-year-old has revealed his desire to sign a striker due to the devastating injury suffered to top goalscorer Steven Fletcher earlier this month but as of yet, nothing substantial has come to light.

However, Howson's latest update provides some encouragement. He tweeted:

The current situation

Wednesday have left themselves with so much to do in so little time, but you have to wonder how much their current finances play a part.

It was reported last week that their pursuit of Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham had hit a stumbling block over the percentage of wages the Owls would pay, and now Cardiff City are in line to clinch him as they plan to offer more.

Monk has also claimed that they need to be 'mindful' due to the fact that they will be trying to work the loan market rather than looking for permanent signings, which only raises further questions.

The south Yorkshire side desperately need a new striker to fill the void left behind by the 32-year-old's 12 goals this season as no other player in the side has scored over three themselves as per WhoScored figures.

It could also depend on the exit of club-record signing Jordan Rhodes, who Wigan are keen on, as his reported wages of £40k-per-week surely rank him amongst the top-earners at the club, and if he were to depart, then you'd imagine they could improve that offer to Wickham or find another alternative.

Who the heck is that?! Can you name all of these obscure Sheffield Wednesday players...

With just four days remaining and no new names being speculated, the Owls increasingly look like they will go in next month without a major addition.
