According to TEAMtalk, Sheffield Wednesday are looking to sign Will Vaulks this summer from their close rivals Rotherham United.

The midfielder has been the standout performer for the Millers last season, and he more than deserves a move to a Championship club.

Adding quality

The 25-year-old would provide an excellent amount of cover in an Owls midfield that is severely lacking quality.

Barry Bannan is, of course, an exceptional player at this level, but Joey Pelupessy has failed to impress the Hillsborough faithful during his time at the club.

Kieran Lee’s injury problems will hopefully subside, but if they don’t Vaulks is a more than adequate member of any Championship midfield.

He scored seven goals and assisted a further seven last term, but he is as good at the back as he is going forward. He averages over two tackles a game as well as taking over two shots per game, so he seems like the perfect box-to-box player.

Cheap signing

Reports have recently speculated that the Owls will have to look for bargains this summer due to FFP regulations, and this signing would be perfect if the Yorkshire club are looking to do some penny-pinching this summer.

The Wales international is headed into the last year of his contract at the New York Stadium, and after the Millers’ recent relegation he would surely not command much of a fee.

He has proven himself at Championship level this term and if he can carry over his form to Hillsborough, Steve Bruce may have a real player on his hands.

Hearing that your club can’t spend much money in a transfer window is never a good thing, but when the transfer committee are picking out bargains like this, there can be no complaints amongst the fanbase.
