After two successive relegations, Sunderland have brought in Scotsman Jack Ross to steady the ship and lead their push for promotion back to the Championship next season.
According to The Northern Echo, Ross is set to make his second signing of the summer in the form of Bury striker Chris Maguire.
The 29-year-old has agreed a deal with the Black Cats and is set for a medical on Wearside. Maguire often plays on the right hand side of an attacking three or behind an out-and-out striker. He struggled for goals at Bury last season, scoring just two in 29 matches in all competitions.
However, he proved he could be a prolific scorer by netting 17 for Oxford United in the 2016/17 season and could be a coup for Ross and Sunderland if he can find that form again this year.
Here’s what Sunderland fans on Twitter have had to say on the signing…
If we get the Chris Maguire that played for Oxford United and Sheffield Wednesday, we’re getting a good player who can win a match and really wind some opposition up. 29 with a point to prove

As a Mackam living in Oxfordshire, I know first hand about Oxford fans love for Maguire!! Technically a great player. Bit of a character too! Remember being told he was ripping the Swindon fans after Oxford beat them a few seasons ago!
Would be good for us! #SAFC

Did well at Oxford before the move to Bury. Plenty of things going wrong on and off the pitch at Bury last year. Various managers and a new manager might not have played him in best position. Relatively risk free signing Who Knows league. Give him a chance.
