The Ivorian defender has emerged as a major target for the Toffees over the course of the past week or so, with an £18m move to Merseyside following John Stones’ exit having been talked about extensively.
Indeed, it has recently been claimed by Sky Sports that the 27-year-old has asked to leave the North East club after broken promises surrounding a new contract at the Stadium of Light, but Moyes has come out to deny these suggestions:
“I expect him to stay,” he is quoted by the Northern Echo.
“Strangely, when I pulled the boy he didn’t know anything about his statement.
“So I’m a little bit disappointed with Sky that they’ve done that without having it confirmed that it’s come from the boy. He didn’t know much about it at all. “He said his name was put to it.”
