Jack Rodwell’s career has not gone quite to plan. From being one of the most promising young players in the country back in his Everton days, Rodwell has seen his path change. He has become a squad player at one of the Premier League’s perennial strugglers – Sunderland.
Heady days in the Manchester City squad were dominated by career-stifling injuries and now Rodwell is a curse for Sunderland. The club are hardly accustomed to victory, but his presence in the side – as shown by this astonishing stat – tends to rule out any chance of success they may have had.

Sunderland don’t win many games as it is and it looks as though Rodwell makes it all considerably worse. Whether he is only selected in games they are unlikely to win, or his presence actually does damage the team, it is hard to tell.
However you choose to dress it up, this must be playing on Rodwell’s mind.

It is a sorry state of affairs and its hard not to feel an inkling of sympathy towards the former Everton midfielder.
