HYS: Who should start for Sunderland in midfield?

Sunderland will be without Max Power for three games after his red card against Oxford, so which summer signing should start in his place?

Sunderland had an incredible summer transfer window, clearing out loads of the deadwood and revamping the first team.

With the exception of the rejuvenated Lee Cattermole, Jack Ross and Stewart Donald did a complete overhaul of the midfield, and Power has been a revelation in the centre of the park.

The 23 year-old will now miss the next three league matches though, which could be a blessing in disguise for two of the Black Cats’ other summer signings.

25 year-old Dylan McGeouch would give the side much more defensive stability, operating slightly deeper than Power and using his vision and technique to dictate the tempo of the game.

While added defensive cover sounds nice, that could sacrifice the attacking potency that has fired the Black Cats into the top four, meaning it might be better to go with Luke O’Nien.

The 23 year-old can copy Power’s marauding runs from midfield, and his all-action presence in the middle of the park will be much more useful than McGeouch, who could perhaps come on late in games to see out the match.

So, Sunderland fans, which midfielder would you start alongside Cattermole while Power is suspended? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
