Martin O’Neill is relishing a cup draw against Middlesbrough again, after two memorable meetings with Boro in the fourth round of the FA Cup last year.
The Black Cats edged their North East rivals with late extra-time winner from Stephane Sessegnon booking their place in the fifth round.
O’Neill spoke to safc.com, “It’s almost like a reunion. I was delighted to see us first out in the draw, hence a home tie. It’s a big game, a local derby, it’s really exciting for both clubs.
“We had two good close games last year and I’m expecting the same this time. Middlesbrough are really picking up and are going strongly in the league, so I’m expecting some game.”
A ten man Sunderland battled to a 2-0 victory away at MK Dons, while Tony Mowbray’s men won away at Preston North End. Sunderland face Wigan Athletic in their second Premier League home fixture while Middlesbrough are hosting Leicester City this weekend in the Championship.
