Revealed: 70% of Sunderland fans think the defence should be priority in January

According to the results of our recent poll, a large majority of Sunderland fans feel that manager Jack Ross needs to strengthen his defence in the January transfer window.

The Black Cats were poor on the weekend as they lost 3-1 to league leaders Portsmouth, but thanks to a number of injury problems they were left extremely short at the back.

Central midfielder Luke O’Nien was once again called upon to play at right-back and Glenn Loovens was drafted in for just his second league start since September.

The Dutchman though was sent off as he conceded a penalty early in the second half, so his suspension will mean even more of a headache for Ross.

From the results of our poll, it’s clear that the Sunderland fans are happy with their midfield and attacking options, but 70 per cent wanted to bring in a new face in defence whilst 30 per cent were not happy with Jon McLaughlin in goal.
