Stoke and Sunderland set for shock talks with Liverpool target, was a huge favourite of Klopp’s

Sunderland and Stoke City are set to commence a fierce transfer tussle to land Borussia Dortmund defender Nevan Subotic this summer, report the Sun.

The stoic Serbian has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool ever since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp in October, though the former Dortmund coach is now said to have opted against a move.

Though injury has derailed the 27-year old recently, he proved to be one of the most formidable defenders in Europe when in full flow.

It is understood that the player’s agents have met with both the Black Cats and the Potters in order to thrash out personal terms before a fee has been agreed.

Sam Allardyce and Mark Hughes are both said to want to land him on either a season-long loan deal or a bargain price after a Bundesliga campaign blighted by injury.

He was a major part of the Dortmund team that had so much success under Klopp, though could be lost in the transition period under Thomas Tuchel.
