Sunderland ace confident of survival

Phil Bardsley believes Sunderland‘s fighting spirit will be enough to ensure they remain in the Premier League this season. The Black Cats secured back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time this season with a 3-0 victory over arch rivals Newcastle on Saturday, lifting them to 14th in the table. And after picking up 10 points from their last four games, Bardsley insists there is enough fight and passion within the squad to keep Gus Poyet’s side away from the bottom three for the remainder of the season. He told The Shields Gazette: “The boys are willing to throw their bodies on the line and run through brick walls for each other. “That’s what it’s all about at this football club. As long as we continue doing that, there should be no reason why we don’t stay in this league. “The encouragement we show each other on the pitch and the communication is fantastic.” And Bardsley also believes his partnership with in form right winger Adam Johnson is something he is really enjoying at the moment. “Ther counter-attacking we played and the relationship me and Johnno have built up in the last couple of months is there to be seen,” he said. “The first goal [against Newcastle] has come from that. We’re playing well together and we’re enjoying it.”
