Sunderland midfielder Duncan Watmore has revealed he’s relishing this weekend’s clash with Bournemouth, as the side rooted to the bottom of the table look for their first Premier League victory this season.
The Black Cats currently have just two points to their name from an available thirty, making them favourites for the drop, but Watmore told the club’s official website now is the perfect time to change their fortunes:
“It is a great stage of the season for us to kick on. We’ve had a bad few games and we aren’t in the right place in the table, but the only way we can rectify that is by winning football matches.
“That starts now and that starts with three points at Bournemouth on Saturday. We need the kind of positivity the fans give us.”
Watmore and the Sunderland squad visited the Nissan factory on Wearside this week to interact with the supporters and the local community, which they hope will provide the stepping stone towards better performances on the field.
As well as being winless, Sunderland have lost four consecutive matches across all competitions and already find themselves eight points from safety in this early stage of the season.
