Sunderland confident of midfielder signing, Moyes wanted him at Everton

Sunderland are confident of re-signing Yann M’Vila following the expiration of his loan spell at the Stadium of Light, according to reports from the Sunderland Echo.

The 26-year-old has returned to Russian club Rubin Kazan after his season-long spell with the Black Cats came to an end.

But, it seems that it was the managerial upheaval on Wearside – Sam Allardyce has left and David Moyes has been drafted in – that saw him slide out of the exit door rather than a lack of desire to keep him, with reports claiming that the club are hopeful of sealing a permanent deal before the close of the transfer window.

M’Vila, who starred for Sunderland as they narrowly avoided relegation, is believed to be a player Moyes admires, with the Scot having tried to sign him when he was in charge of Everton.

The 6ft defensive midfielder is known for his combination of physicality and technical ability and was linked with a host of Europe’s elite clubs earlier in his career before questions marks arose on the back of off-field issues.
