Sunderland manager David Moyes is keen on Nottingham Forest ace Britt Assombalonga and travelled to Griffin Park to watch him in action against Brentford on Tuesday night, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The 23-year-old forward has missed the bulk of the last 18 months through injury, but prior to his spell on the sidelines he had developed a reputation as a goalscoring threat, notching 15 in league action during 2014/15 for the Tricky Trees.
Before joining Forest he averaged one in two in league action for Peterborough, and it seems that fitness concerns have not eased his appeal, with reports claiming Moyes travelled to watch him earlier this week.
Assombalonga did not start against Brentford as the birth of his child occurred just hours before kick-off, but he did make it on as a second-half substitute.
Sunderland are desperately short of options up front, with Jermain Defoe short of back-up.
This was exposed when loanee Adnan Januzaj was pushed into a central attacking role late on the weekend loss at Manchester City.
