A number of Sunderland fans have been discussing if Phil Parkinson deserves more time at the Stadium of Light to get the team playing as he would like.
The Black Cats have lost two of their last four games after ninety minutes across all competitions, with the sole draw in that run resulting in defeat on penalties in the EFL Cup.
Parkinson was appointed to the helm earlier this month as the replacement for Jack Ross, with it felt the former Colchester, Hull, Charlton, Bradford and Bolton manager would offer the Wearside outfit their best chance of promotion through his vast experiences in the third tier.
Sunderland had opted to fire Ross following a slow start to the campaign, after defeat to Lincoln left the North East side sixth in the table.

The Black Cats reached the Play-Off Final last term under Ross, but results with Parkinson at the helm have seen the Stadium of Light natives slip further down the League One standings to eighth.
Fans are seemingly mixed in what they expect from Parkinson in his next immediate fixtures in charge, as some have suggested he ‘needs time to take stock’ of who he has at his disposal but others feel their club do not have enough time to spare.
Sunderland host 22nd-placed Southend on Saturday, with a win potentially enough to climb back inside the Play-Off places.
Here are some of the messages shared…
We DON’T have time for another to spend months turning it round back to how Jack Ross had it & he was only half way. Everyone said gonna take time, didn’t give Jack that. It was gonna take 3yrs min

I have a feeling it’ll not take him as long as JR to get a functioning 11 that changes very little. Desperately need to figure out our best midfield. Back 4 picks itself almost (O9 and not McLaughlin at RB for now) I’m more confident games like Southend coming up we’ll win now 🤞🏻

He’s just got to ride this out until the team are fully tuned into his desired way of playing, which will undoubtedly happen with time. Our lack of composure in front of goal is the worry. There’s very little clarity of thought when chances come our way.

All I know is results need to start improving, and fast. We have strikers who cannot score and defenders that cannot defend. We deserve better.

The issue is that he needs time to take stock but is unlikely to get that time.
Not his fault that the owners have put him in this ridiculous situation.
