Sunderland needed late heroics to keep their rich vein of form going on Tuesday evening.
The Black Cats drew 1-1 to Fleetwood Town at the Stadium of Light to make it five games unbeaten in League One.
Max Power’s strike in the 97th minute salvaged Phil Parkinson a point with his side remaining fourth in the division.
But fans were far from pleased with the showing as they couldn’t capitalise on 63% possession and a total of 16 shots, per the BBC match report.
Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke came in for the most criticism following the match.
Here’s what has been said…
Wyke can't even hold the ball up, his first touch is horrendous
— Dan Honour (@danhonour81) February 26, 2020
Wyke is amd always has been utter garbage mate don't understand why he gets a game
— Richy kemp (@Kempoid84) February 26, 2020
I'm sick of wyke..hes a waste of time and space. What does he actually offer?
— Lee Adamson (@adamson82safc) February 25, 2020
Charlie Wyke still hasn’t managed to get off the pitch. ETA 01:45 and that’s assuming he steps out of the treacle and takes his lead boots off

Hume, Wyke and Gooch poor today.
And Watmore looks absolutely shot to bits 🤦🏼♂️#SAFC

Very poor wins next to nothing in the air and pushed off the very easily apart from that he’s ok

The 27-year-old was lamented for having a “horrendous” first touch and for winning next to nothing in the air whilst one supporter labelled him a “waste of time and space.”
“Garbage” and “very poor” were two other reviews of his performance last night.
Per SofaScore, he lost possession 15 times, had no shots at goal and won just 36% of his duels both on the ground and in the air. He also recorded the lowest rating of any Sunderland player (6.3).
A further fan even joked that Wyke was still yet to make it off the pitch as he was walking in treacle while wearing lead boots.
It has led to calls to drop the striker from some sections of the Black Cats faithful.
It’s time to drop Wyke. The lad isn’t good enough it’s not his fault. We have better options currently on the bench.
I did think Parky got it wrong taking Dobson off, left a massive hole in the middle of the park #SAFC

And as a result, it has sparked debate over who should take his position – if Parkinson is brave enough to replace him in the starting XI anytime soon.
One claimed Will Grigg was ten times the player of Wyke while another believes Kyle Lafferty offers so much more than the 6 foot 2 frontman.
Yes. And he’s 10x the player Wyke is
— ً (@iEddsyy) February 26, 2020
Surely Grigg has to be a option? Wyke worst CF I’ve ever seen play for Sunderland, offers zero threat and does the defenders job for them
— Gav🏴🏴 (@BradfordGavin) February 25, 2020
Offers a lot more than Wyke, think we’d be in more control from kick off
— Lionel Speccy (@LionelSpeccy) February 25, 2020
100% Grigg over wyke and if anyone genuinely disagrees they don’t watch wyke attempt to play football
— Connor Lawson (@connorlawson_) February 25, 2020
Sick of saying it, Wyke is the worst number 9 in our entire history. I’m not saying Lafferty would score a boat load but he can run and jump which is stark improvement on our current number 9.
— Kingy 🏴🇬🇧 (@Kingy78_) February 26, 2020
Lafferty has to start on Sunday for me. Defended Wyke a lot but completely lost my rag with him last night. I’m not bothered if he doesn’t have the most ability on the planet but the lack of jumping to win balls, gambling on a cross, slowness to close down is infuriating…
— Kieran Lawrence (@k1awrence) February 26, 2020
Lafferty looks quicker, hungrier and can hold the ball up. Wyke fell over about 60 times last night and missed another sitter, even though he was offside, he never knew that at the time. Lafferty must play.
— Jimmy Jesus (@GazJ20162017) February 26, 2020
Wyke was even brandished as the “worst no.9” in the club’s entire history and that Lafferty looks a lot more hungry and speedy in comparison.
