Sunderland fans not confident about one-man defence vs QPR

Sunderland may face QPR this weekend with only one fit centre back, according to Chris Coleman.

The Black Cats fell to yet another home defeat on Tuesday night as highflying Aston Villa ran out comfortable winners at the Stadium of Light, 3-0.

Lewis Grabban and James Chester scored before the break, and an own goal from Bryan Oviedo encapsulated the home fans’ misery.

Now, with a trip to London to face QPR to come this weekend, Coleman says injuries to John O’Shea and Ty Browning could leave him with just one fit centre back.

O’Shea and Browning both went off injured in the defeat to Villa, and Jake Clarke-Salter has one game left of a suspension to serve.

“Billy (Jones) played in there tonight, and it depends how John reacts. Ty is going to be a big doubt with a knee problem he has been carrying for a while.

“Jake will be serving the final game of his suspension.

“At the moment, we only have Lamine (Kone) fit.”

Coleman typically prefers to play with three centre backs, so this could be a massive problem if O’Shea does not recover quickly.

Understandably, Sunderland fans are not feeling too confident about the trip to London, despite QPR managing just three wins in their last ten home matches.
