Sunderland fans react as Burnley chief drops Jimmy Dunne hint

Loads of Sunderland fans have been reacting to a transfer update, as it appears Jimmy Dunne will complete a permanent move to the Stadium of Light this summer.

Dunne, who is on loan at Sunderland from Burnley, could become a permanent Black Cat this summer, Burnley Technical Director Mike Rigg has hinted.

Rigg told The Lancashire Telegraph: “We want to be one of the best Academies in the country, but we can’t spend what Manchester City spend, so we’ve got to do what’s right for us.

“If we get a Dwight McNeil in the team, or a Jimmy Dunne is (potentially) sold to Sunderland, that’s achieved the objective.”

The Clarets man then went on to heap praise on McNeil’s emergence into the first team but with no mention of Dunne, perhaps confirming once and for all that he does not see a path to the first XI for the 21 year-old.

Dunne has made 25 appearances on Wearside this season, scoring three times and assisting once.

While Jack Ross clearly believes he is developing well – he had started the last ten games before Walsall – plenty of fans remain unconvinced.

The young Irishman is prone to poor positioning, slack passes and lapses of concentration, and the Twitter reactions down below are not exactly thrilled at the prospect of keeping him once his loan spell ends.
