Sunderland fans respond negatively to FA Cup first round tie against Gillingham

The FA Cup first-round draw was made on Monday and it is fair to say that many Sunderland fans are unhappy with their fixture.

Phil Parkinson will host fellow League One side Gillingham, leaving some fans disheartened that they haven’t got the opportunity of an exciting away tie.

Instead, they believe the match against the Gills is a boring clash, which is understandable given they will play them twice in the league for the second season running.

One fan has pointed out the fact that former Sunderland youth graduate Mikael Madron will return, and suggested that he could come back to haunt them.

That underlines the pessimism amongst the fanbase, as the striker scored just two goals in 41 appearances last term in League Two, and that shows that fans are just not engaged with the prospect of facing Steve Evans’ side.
