Sunderland fans have been discussing their 1-1 draw at Luton, and many fans feel it’s time that Lee Cattermole says goodbye to the club.
Jack Ross and Stewart Donald have done an incredible amount of work this summer overhauling the Sunderland squad, but it was one of the old guard that cost them three points on Saturday.
The Black Cats took the lead at Luton courtesy of Josh Maja’s second goal of the season, only for Cattermole’s slack marking at a corner to allow the home side to equalise.
The 30 year-old has made over 200 league appearances on Wearside, but a combination of factors has got fans debating an exit.
His quality on the pitch has declined drastically in the last 18 months, and despite only turning 30 this year he seems to have lost all his energy and work ethic.
There is also the fact that he is being linked with a move away, and many fans feel his head is not in the right place to be wearing the red and white stripes.

No mate. Look a mistake can cost a game but the lad has been terrible for ages now. Even if he was on league 1 wages I would struggle to see why he is being picked.his legs are gone. To many nights out and injuries has ruined the lad.

No complete clear out I would say, had his time. As the old club captain if somebody takes your armband that tells it’s own story. Think he is too stale for this league

Cattermole should be nowhere near the squad, he’s been a mainstay through back to back relegations. Get rid.

Should make him train on his own until he agrees to reduce his wage demands and go somewhere else. He doesn’t want to be at the club, the fans don’t want him at the club.

How much longer do we have to suffer him, even in this league he’s a liability, I was hoping the new regime would get rid or at worst not involve him seeing as it’s common knowledge he wants out.

RE: Catts – for me it’s simple. The regime has brought a culture change of the club and to fully implement it Cattermole needs to be away from the match squad.
I know he wants away and we want rid – but quite frankly he is a liability every time he steps onto the pitch.

He’s been a good servant to the club but in the last 2 years how many times has he not cut out a cross or stopped a pass that resulted in a goal for the opposition. No hard feelings but he cannot be part of this new set up.

He always has been a liability. Amazed it has taken some fans so long to realise this. #SAFC
