Sunderland are chasing Livorno striker Paulinho, according to the player’s agent.
The 27-year-old attacker is said to be attracting a lot of interest ahead of the summer transfer window, with a number of Serie A clubs monitoring his situation.
But, Black Cats boss Paolo Di Canio is keen to rival any potential Italian suitors and offer the Brazilian an alternative option.
Goals were few and far between at the Stadium of Light last term, which almost saw the north east club relegated from the Premier League.
Di Canio is keen to address this issue, and believes that Paulinho can give his side more of a cutting edge.
The hit-man’s agent, Eugenio Ascari, says that the interest from Sampdoria is the strongest being shown, but that Sunderland are firmly in the race.
“Sampdoria’s offer is the most concrete, they have followed Paulinho for two-three months and we have already had some contact with them,” he is quoted by Sky Sports via tuttomercatoweb.com.
“Abroad, I think that Di Canio’s Sunderland are planning to make an offer soon, and then every day I always read new teams are interested in the press.”
Paulinho has been a Livorno player since 2005 and has made in excess of 125 appearances for their first-team, averaging a goal almost every three games.
Can Paulinho make Sunderland more of an attacking threat?
