Sunderland vs Newcastle in transfer scrap for African attacker

According to reports from The Telegraph, Newcastle United, Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanders have all expressed an interest in signing Anderlecht striker Idrissa Sylla.

The 25-year-old boasts eight goals in 25 appearances for the Belgian side, including two Jupiler League strikes already this season.

And that may have drawn Newcastle United to the Gabon international, who has represented his country on 14 occasions, after failing to find the net in their opening fixture of the Championship season – a 1-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Rafa Benitez is reportedly keen to add a fourth option to his strike force before the summer transfer window slams shut, with Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez already at his disposal.

But the Magpies face some competition in the race to sign the African attacker, with fierce rivals Sunderland also linked according to The Telegraph. Championship side Wolves have also expressed an interest in signing the 6 foot 2 striker.
