Sunderland will be boosted by Capital One Cup says Poyet

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is confident his side will be boosted by their cup run, reports Sky Sports.

The Black Cats are bottom of the Premier League table, four points adrift of safety. But the Uruguayan insists that their Capital One Cup run won’t harm their league fight.

“When I was a player, I wanted to play. I hated to train and the fitness coach making me run and run. I wanted to play games,” Poyet said.

“If it was three days (between games), it would be perfection. If it’s two days, it’s a little bit risky.

“Today we gave a rest to a few players who will be fresh on Tuesday and will have no excuses to perform against Manchester United.

Sunderland face Fulham and Southampton in between their two semi-final legs, as they look to climb out of the relegation zone. But with just 2 wins from their last 10 league fixtures, a positive result in the cup against United could be the morale boost Poyet and his squad need.

The Black Cats sealed their place in the Semi-Finals in dramatic fashion, defeating Chelsea in extra time. Poyet will be hoping to take down another Premier League giant, with a trip to Wembley at stake.
