Three points will do it – Sunderland midfielder

Sunderland's David VaughanDavid Vaughan says to ensure they are safe from the drop this season Sunderland need to pick up one more win.

The Black Cats need just one more victory to see them reach the 40-point mark this season – traditionally the safety point in the Premier League.

Midfielder Vaughan is desperate for the win to come as soon as possible and hopes it will be against Aston Villa on Monday night.

“Do I think one more win will keep us up? Yes, I think it almost certainly will,” Vaughan told the Echo.

“If we beat Aston Villa on Monday there will be a six-point gap between us, there’ll be a gap between us and Wigan and maybe one or two others.

“So I do think reaching 40 points will be significant if we can do it.

“It will make it difficult for other teams to catch us, with games running out – especially as our goal difference is good compared to a lot of other teams.”
