Sunderland got the three points they needed against Ipswich on Saturday in League One.
The Black Cats hosted the Tractor Boys at the Stadium of Light in this match between two sides who have seen better days – they have both been in the Premier League this century. As it is, they are now both pushing for promotion back to the Championship. In the end, it was the north-east side that picked up all three points with a 1-0 win – Chris Maguire bagged the only goal.
The club’s supporters, though, were talking an awful lot about the performance of Charlie Wyke, and it seems they were torn over whether he had a good game. Some were quick to praise him.
Massive massive win that. Didn’t turn up first half, looked like a different team in the second. Charlie Wyke was absolutely brilliant as well, chased everything. #hawaythelads

Charlie Wyke excellent today for #safc led the line well, battled and challenged for everything. He might not be banging the goals in but his play in the system definitely is beneficial to McGuire and to Gooch.

I really hope people start seeing what Wyke means for this team. I agree he is not scoring, but he is massive for this team. He is left on his own far too often. He tries everything to help the team, sometimes the team is not helping him..

I thought Wyke was very good second half (despite the sitter) everything else he did well. Who saw that second half coming. Need a win midweek.

Others, though, were far from happy with his showing.
charlie wyke is our Achilles heal…. terrible footballer

We deserved to win that but Wyke is atrocious. Why isn’t Grigg getting a shout? He did ok when Lafferty came on but in front of goal he’s really letting us down #SAFC

Much better performance in the second half. Maguire and Dobson stood out for me, Maguire in particular. Frustrating performance from Wyke again though, probably the weakest target man I’ve seen – more bothered about the man than the ball. #SAFC

Fortunately, his display didn’t matter too much in the end.
