In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former footballer and current pundit Carlton Palmer has made a claim regarding Ezgjan Alioski potentially signing a new contract at Leeds United.

It has been reported recently that the Yorkshire club are in talks with the Macedonian, as his current deal is set to expire at the end of the season.

It would be a surprise to see the 28-year-old depart Elland Road at the end of this campaign, as he has been a regular in Marcelo Bielsa's side so far this campaign, having made eight appearances in the Premier League.

He was also a mainstay in the Argentinian's side last season in the Championship, making 39 appearances, in which he contributed five goals and five assists, so was clearly a big part of the Whites' promotion back to the top-flight.

However, Palmer has suggested to FFC that Leeds shouldn't rush into a decision over Alioski's new contract, saying:

"I think if he continues to do what he does, then maybe [Leeds should offer him a new deal] yeah. I don't think you should rush into doing it."

Palmer seems to suggest that should Alioski continue his role as a versatile member of Bielsa's squad, who can be relied upon to play in several different positions, then there is no reason why the Yorkshire club shouldn't offer him a new deal.

However, contrary to Palmer's thoughts, Leeds may need to 'rush into doing it', considering the 28-year-old will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs in the January transfer window, with the view to them signing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.

During his time at Leeds, Alioski has contributed a fairly impressive 20 goals and 16 assists in 142 games, so it would be a shame if he wasn't handed a new deal and thus, left on a free transfer in the summer with Leeds not even getting a transfer fee for him.

And, in other news... Leeds made an unforgivable error in releasing midfielder at 16, he's now a PL captain
