Marcelo Bielsa will be disappointed if he misses out on Lewis O'Brien to Crystal Palace, former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer has told Football FanCast.

O'Brien is thought to be high on Bielsa's list, with Football Insider reporting that Leeds opened talks over signing the Huddersfield man last month.

However, according to the same outlet, Leeds are facing strong competition from Palace, who have already irked the Yorkshire club after beating them to Conor Gallagher's signature earlier this summer.

The report suggests that Leeds are firmly in the lead to land O'Brien, but should they end up losing out on him to Palace for whatever reason, Palmer does not think Bielsa will be too happy.

"They will be frustrated," the ex-Leeds player said to FFC when discussing the possibility of his old side being beaten to a signing by Palace again.

"But you've got to understand, Leeds have had a settled and a recognised side. I would think that the players are choosing Crystal Palace because they believe that they're going to get more game time than they would at Leeds United.

"Bielsa will be disappointed because you do need that squad and you want to have that depth, but it's always difficult."

Fortunately for Bielsa and Leeds, it does look like they should be able to wrap up a deal for O'Brien.

But certainly, having lost out on Gallagher to Crystal Palace, it really would be a frustrating development if the Eagles managed to swoop in again and take the Huddersfield midfielder away from them.
