Former Premier League frontman Dean Windass has praised Daniel James after joining Leeds United from rivals Manchester United on deadline day.

James completed the switch for a fee believed to be in the region of £25million just a matter of hours before the transfer window slammed shut.

Leeds enquired about whether Manchester United would be willing to offload the Wales international winger after the Red Devils sealed the return of club legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo's move from Juventus was likely to restrict James' first-team opportunities despite having started two of Manchester United's three Premier League fixtures so far this season, including the opening day thrashing of new club Leeds.

James' arrival at Elland Road comes two years after a proposed transfer to the Yorkshire club collapsed while he was on the books of Championship side Swansea City.

Windass believes the 23-year-old has made the right decision in swapping Manchester United for Leeds.

He exclusively told Football FanCast: "I have massive respect for him because it must be very hard to leave Manchester United like that but, obviously, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must have had a chat with him.

"I'm assuming he will play every week and add a bit more pace on Leeds' right-hand side. He's a great signing."
