Exclusive: Patrick Bamford has found “the perfect home” at Leeds United

Former Premier League star Keith Gillespie believes Patrick Bamford is at the perfect club as he looks to gatecrash the England squad for the European Championships this summer, he has told Football FanCast.

The Leeds United striker has scored 14 goals in 30 Premier League outings this season as Leeds have risen as high as 11th in the Premier League table.

They are currently 16 points clear of the relegation zone, with the trapdoor now firmly in the rear-view mirror.

Bamford’s form has led to suggestions he could be selected for England, although manager Gareth Southgate overlooked him for his most recent squad, instead picking Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins as his back-up striker behind Harry Kane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, of Tottenham Hotspur and Everton respectively.

Watkins scored in the 5-0 win over San Marino.

Gillespie, though, believes Bamford is in the perfect place to keep scoring goals and make an impression ahead of the Euros this summer.

He told FFC: “I think he’s found the perfect home, Bamford.

“That’s not to say he couldn’t go on again because I have been impressed with him. I think there’s a chance that he could make that squad for the Euros for England. You look at someone like Ollie Watkins, who’s done really well, it’s maybe a toss-up between them two, who was going to be that choice of strikers in that squad. Watkins came on and scored, and does really well, but Bamford is definitely knocking on the door.”

Gillespie also thinks top-six clubs will be on alert with Bamford continually turning in excellent performances.

He added: “I’m sure clubs are maybe standing up and taking notice, he knows where the back of the net is and he’s proved that this season.”
