Leeds United have been handed a second chance to sign an exciting south American star…

What’s the latest?

That’s according to Calciomercatoweb, who state that Inter Milan are willing to cull large portions of their squad in order to raise funds.

One of the names mentioned in the report is Joaquin Correa, with the Argentine considered transferable for a fee of around €20m (£17m).

Given their pursuit for him in the summer, this could mark a fine opportunity to re-enter the race and finally get their man.

Imagine him and Rodrigo

Whilst at the time of their initial pursuit he was billed as the direct replacement for Raphinha, it is clear now that he could thrive wherever manager Jesse Marsch deploys him across the front line.

Having proven himself a consistent goal threat in Italy for some time now, he could look to translate this into Premier League success and steer the Whites to safety.

Should he join, he will likely only further supplement the current goalscoring exploits of Rodrigo.

After enduring a tough start to life at Elland Road, the Spaniard already boasts nine league goals this season, which dwarfs any of his previous tallies since his move.

The 31-year-old could see this number only increase further when adding Correa to the mix, who ranks in the top 15% for assists and the top 11% for progressive passes per 90.

The £106k-per-week star has scored and provided goals wherever he has played, with his best form being at Lazio. Across 117 games, the 28-year-old would score 30 and assist a further 18 from attacking midfield.

To pair Rodrigo’s red-hot form with the creative consistency of Correa could be a stroke of genius for Marsch, who remains keen on boasting the firepower to score their way to safety.

Not only this, but his ability to “play at the highest levels” suggests that he would also bring a wealth of experience should he join too. This is what Simone Inzaghi had to say, as he continued: “Correa is a formidable player. He is very intelligent tactically; he sacrifices a lot for the team.”

Adding this selflessness to his abundance of talent makes him the perfect Leeds player for Marsch, and one that they should reignite their interest in immediately.
