Leeds United are on track to return to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years as they sit second in the Championship with just 10 games to go.

The Whites have been on a remarkable journey since their relegation from the top-flight in 2004, but Marcelo Bielsa looks like he’s finally found the magic formula to lead the Yorkshire club out of the wilderness.

However, promotion is often a bittersweet feeling, there’s the jubilation of being promoted to the top-flight, but with the riches that come with Premier League football a number of the heroes that helped the team on their quest may be cast aside for new more expensive options.

Just look at the likes of Aston Villa and Fulham over the past couple of years, those two sides didn’t hesitate to spend big, parting ways with over £100m each to put together their new-look squads.

Unfortunately, this meant that some of the lads who helped them gain promotion were surplus to requirements, and Leeds’ biggest casualty on that front may be a man who hasn’t actually played that much this term.

Indeed, Adam Forshaw’s spot would have to be in jeopardy if United went up.

When the former Boro man is fit, he’s one of Bielsa’s most important players, being described as a mix between Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich and even being compared to Barcelona’s Arthur.

However, his injury has shown Bielsa that he can get by just fine without him, and he’s also faltered in the past in the top-flight appearing 34 times for Middlesbrough in the 2016/17 season as they were relegated.

When Victor Orta comes to deciding where he needs to strengthen in the summer, a new midfielder will be high on his list of priorities.

The lack of depth in that position has seen Mateusz Klich having to play through illness lately, and Phil Hay has recently stated that he thinks it was a mistake from United to not buy a new player in that position in January.

With United set to receive a hefty windfall upon promotion, they may be able to spend big on a midfielder this summer, and that could spell the end of Forshaw being an important player in Bielsa’s side. After all, Leeds sit second in the table despite the fact he's only played seven times all season.
