Leeds: Predicted XI for Spurs clash

Leeds United are back in Premier League action away to Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon, with Jesse Marsch’s men looking to bounce back from the midweek defeat to top-flight strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.

That disappointing loss saw a late strike from Boubacar Traore ultimately prove the difference at Molineux, albeit with the Yorkshire side having been in fine form in the league prior to that, winning their last two top-tier fixtures against Liverpool and Bournemouth.

Bidding to secure a third successive league victory and ensure a positive end to club action heading into the World Cup break, the Elland Road outfit face a stern test against Antonio Conte’s side, having won just one of their past nine top-flight meetings with the north Londoners.

The visitors could well fancy their chances of improving that record later today, however, amid Spurs’ recent wretched run of form, with the top-four hopefuls having lost three of their past four league games.

Ahead of the two club’s final competitive game until late December, here’s how we at Football FanCast predict that Leeds will line up:

Meslier; Kristensen, Llorente, Cooper, Struijk; Roca, Adams; Gnonto, Aaronson, Summerville; Rodrigo.

Marsch and co have been dealt a blow heading the match with injury-plagued striker Patrick Bamford set to be absent once again – alongside Mateusz Klich – while fleet-footed winger Jack Harrison is also reportedly a doubt.

With that in mind, we predict that there will be ten alterations from the much-changed, youthful side that was undone by Wolves on Wednesday, with the ever-reliable Illan Meslier set to return in the sticks.

The only survivor from the midweek loss could be centre-back Diego Llorente, with the Spaniard set to keep his place over the struggling Robin Koch. The £46k-per-week dud – who was once described as “horrible to watch” by journalist Beren Cross – had one of his ‘shakiest displays‘ of the season against the Cherries, as per Cross.

That will see Rasmus Kristensen, Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk make up the rest of the backline – despite shipping three against Gary O’Neil’s men last weekend – while Marc Roca and Tyler Adams should regain their place in midfield, with the latter man recently earning a place in USA’s squad for Qatar.

In attack, it could well be a chance for summer signing Wilfried Gnonto to earn a first start for the club at senior level, with the “lively” 19-year-old – as described by U21 boss Michael Skubala – having a “real possibility” of starting, according to his manager, after registering an assist off the bench last week.

The other three attacking berths should be taken up by Brenden Aaronson, Crysencio Summerville and Rodrigo, with the latter duo bidding to become the first Leeds player since Mark Viduka in 2004 to score in four Premier League games in succession.
