Leeds must finally start Joe Gelhardt against Leicester in the Premier League

After finally registering their second win of the Premier League season against Norwich last week, Leeds United will be hoping to make it back-to-back victories when they take on Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

Marcelo Bielsa may be inclined to keep the same starting line-up after they picked up a precious three points at Carrow Road, but the Whites manager could inject some fresh energy into his side by finally unleashing Joe Gelhardt in the XI.

The 19-year-old has played just 40 minutes of Premier League football this season after coming on as a second half substitute in games against Southampton and Wolves, but his talent is clearly there for all to see.

Can you beat this impossible Leeds quiz!?

Leeds Live’s Beren Cross has already suggested that the teenager could well be the best piece of transfer business the Whites have done in a number of years, saying: “As I’m sure we’ll find out in the years ahead, Gelhardt may well be the best bit of business the club has done in the last 20 years, if not ever, because he just looks absolutely outrageous, very, very good player.”

Writing in his post-match player ratings after Gelhardt’s superb match-saving cameo against Wolves, Cross said: “Excellent home debut for the teenager in the time he had on the field with the team playing as it was. As the pressure was poured onto the visitors in the last half an hour, Gelhardt was the man at the sharp end with the openings to bury. Denied an unforgettable debut strike by a good Jose Sa save. Won the penalty too.”

With 17 goals in just 23 games at Premier League 2 level, including a stunning hat-trick in a 5-0 win over West Brom last season, Gelhardt has shown that he has outgrown the under-23s and now needs to be in and around the first team.

Finally giving him the chance to start from the off today against Leicester rather than as a potential super-sub could be a game-changing move by Bielsa.

Meanwhile, Phil Hay has dropped an exciting 49ers claim…
