The Athletic's Phil Hay has dropped a worrying update on Leeds United star Jack Harrison.

What's the story?

The winger missed the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Friday evening due to a viral infection, and the journalist has now shed some more light on what that could potentially mean going forward.

In response to a question from a supporter, Hay said: "It’s not panic time but they do need to get this first win. Not sure exactly when Harrison’s test came back but he’ll have a little stint away. Not sure if he’ll make West Ham. This little run of games coming up is so important. They have to gather some impetus."

Big miss for Leeds

Harrison enjoyed a superb campaign with Leeds in the Premier League last season, with his tally of eight goals bettered only by Patrick Bamford, and his haul of eight assists second only to Raphinha (Transfermarkt).

The winger enjoyed a superb season for the Whites, and speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Leeds player David Norris waxed lyrical about the kind of impact the 24-year-old has had, saying: "I think from the people I've spoken to at the club, he certainly hasn't gone under the radar because they like him and I think he's stepped it uplevel this year.

"He's done a couple of brilliant pieces of skill and has scored some great goals but he's really direct, quick and exciting to watch."

Those sentiments were echoed by another former Whites stalwart in Paul Robinson, who said: "I think the player he has developed into, not just on the field, but his stature and physical fitness, I think he’s becoming an all-round key component of this Bielsa side.

"I like Jack, he’s got a lot of talent, he’s got speed, he’s direct, scores goals, creates goals and for that price tag, I think it’s an absolute no-brainer. They have to make that signing."

After the disappointing full debut of Dan James, Leeds fans will surely be worried at the prospect of Harrison missing any more games, especially given the lacklustre start the Whites have made in the Premier League this season.

Meanwhile, one player is in talks over a new Leeds United contract...
