Leeds United had a rather quiet January transfer window in terms of bringing any new players to Elland Road, leaving manager Marcelo Bielsa to end the season with the players he has had at his disposal since the start of the season.

Looking ahead to the summer transfer window and what that could entail for the Yorkshire club, it seems as though the focus could be more on seeing them try and keep hold of one of their key players rather than add some new ones to their squad.

What's the talk?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Pete O'Rourke had this to say on the upcoming summer transfer window and specifically what it could hold for Leeds and their star winger Raphinha.

He said: "In the summer, they are going to have a major fight to keep hold of him."

Leeds signed the winger back in October 2020 from French club Stade Rennes in a deal worth a reported fee of £17m.

Since then, the Brazilian has cemented himself as a critical player for the Whites with 14 goals and 11 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions.

In addition to his goals and assists, the 25-year-old has shown in his overall performances just how important he is for the Yorkshire club.

At the end of his debut season at Elland Road, Raphinha ended the campaign as Leeds' highest-rated player according to WhoScored with an overall rating of 7.13/10.

This season has also seen the attacker show just how good he is by once again being listed as the highest-rated Leeds player in the league by WhoScored with a rating of 7.22/10, showing that he has not just been a one-season wonder.

Fans would be seething

All in all, Raphinha's goals, assists and performances have shown not only why he was linked with a move away from Leeds last summer but also why O'Rourke thinks the club may have a challenge on their hands to keep hold of him this time around.

If Leeds were to sell him in the summer, this would surely be an unforgivable act from the club that would definitely upset a lot of fans.

Moving forward, even though his current contract at Leeds isn't set to expire until the summer of 2024, it could be worth Victor Orta approaching the winger and his representatives over the possibility of seeing him signing a new deal at the club to ward off any potential transfer offers from other clubs.
