Leeds United have been handed a hugely encouraging injury update on talismanic duo Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper ahead of the Premier League clash against Wolves tonight.

What's the story?

The Whites head into the contest at Molineux off the back of a vital 2-1 victory over Norwich City last time out, and they have been given an even bigger boost ahead of this fixture.

Writing on Twitter, The Athletic's Phil Hay said: "Decision still to be taken on how or if Phillips/Cooper will feature against Wolves but very much in contention."

Massive boost for Leeds

Make no mistake about it, Leeds' success over the Canaries was a hugely important one which may prove to be the catalyst for the club's desperate survival act.

Failing to beat the Premier League's bottom side, and at home, would have been damaging not just in terms of the table, but also to the club's morale and their chances of actually believing in a comeback.

With the three points secured, the Whites will already be bouncing heading into tonight's fixture, and Hay's latest news that both Phillips and Cooper are now in contention to make their long-awaited returns is very timely indeed.

The Scotland defender ranks second in WhoScored's performance rankings of the Leeds squad this season, with the reigning England men's player of the year in seventh, so their importance to the Whites' cause is evident.

It's a massive boost for a team which needs every bit of help it can get, and it's one which will surely have Jesse Marsch and the Elland Road faithful buzzing.
