Leeds United have been rather busy in the transfer market in terms of bringing new players to the club after they were promoted back to the Premier League at the end of the 2019/20 season.

One figure that the Whites paid quite a lot of money for back in the 2020 summer transfer window is Rodrigo.

Signed on a four-year deal from Spanish club Valencia worth a then club-record fee of £26m, the attacker has gone on to score 13 goals and provide three assists in 61 appearances for the Whites.

Now at the age of 31, the Spaniard is the second-oldest outfield player at the club, despite still being a fairly new recruit.

With that in mind, the remaining weeks of the current summer transfer window could give the Whites the ideal chance to bring in what could be a dream long-term heir for the former Valencia star.

One player that has been linked with a move to Elland Road this summer that could fit this position is Manchester City youngster James McAtee.

Having made 87 appearances for City's youth sides - which has seen the likes of Phil Foden come through and become a fully-fledged Premier League star - McAtee has racked up 44 goals and 27 assists across all competitions, adding up to 71 goal contributions in total.

Described as a "highly-rated" young player who has "massive talent and huge potential" - according to journalist Jonathan Smith - the 19-year-old would certainly be an exciting addition to Jesse Marsch's squad, especially with the eagerness he would have to become a regular Premier League player.

Also, in terms of being a suitable long-term heir for Rodrigo, the Englishman's versatility by being able to play in midfield and as a centre-forward mirrors the Spaniard's usefulness of managing to play across similar attacking positions.

Bearing in mind how Leeds have already brought in a player from City's youth ranks in the shape of Darko Gyabi, in addition to seeing Kalvin Phillips make a move to the Etihad Stadium this summer, the connections between the two clubs should well be used again by the Whites to try and convince the Citizens to allow McAtee to join them.

However, given the attacking talent that he clearly has, it could be quite a challenge to get the teenage talent out of the Manchester club.
