Leeds: Jesse Marsch handed potential boost ahead of Arsenal

Leeds United have been handed a potentially huge boost ahead of their Premier League meeting with Arsenal this weekend.

What’s the latest?

That’s according to a report by the Evening Standard, who claim that, after being ruled out of the Gunners’ 1-0 win over Bodo/Glimt on Thursday evening as a result of an ongoing muscle injury, Oleksandr Zinchenko is also a doubt for Sunday afternoon’s Premier League meeting at Elland Road.

The report goes on to state that the left-back will continue to be monitored ahead of the trip to Leeds, with Premierinjuries.com currently suggesting that the Ukraine international has no set return date from his injury.

Good news for Marsch

Considering just how impressive Zinchenko has been for Arsenal since his £32m move to The Emirates this summer, the fact that the defender looks as if he will once again be unavailable for selection against the Whites this weekend is undoubtedly good news for Jesse Marsch and his side.

Indeed, over his five Premier League appearances in 2022/23, the £30.5m-rated full-back has been in fantastic form at the back, making an average of 1.8 tackles, one interception, one clearance and winning 3.8 duels – at a success rate of 68% – per game.

The 52-cap international has also impressed in an attacking capacity, registering one assist, as well as making an average of 0.4 key passes, taking 0.8 shots and completing 0.4 dribbles per game.

These returns have seen the 25-year-old average an impressive WhoScored match rating of 6.94, currently ranking him as Arsenal’s seventh-best performer in the top flight of English football this term.

What month did Marcelo Bielsa's tenure come to an unfortunate end?

As such, it is clear to see that the absence of a player with the quality of the four-time Premier League winner will come as a huge boost to Leeds’ chances of picking up a positive result against the Gunners on Sunday – with Marsch undoubtedly hoping that his side can get back to winning ways after a run of five games without a victory.
