Leeds United centre-forward Patrick Bamford could be fit to feature against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

What's the latest?

In comments cited by Phil Hay following the Whites' 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday evening, Rene Maric revealed that the 29-year-old centre-forward - who missed both the victory over AFC Bournemouth and the Carabao Cup defeat as a result of a hip injury - may well be available for the trip to north London on Saturday afternoon.

Relaying the assistant head coach's remarks regarding the England international, Hay said: "[Maric] says Bamford has a chance of being ready for the weekend against Spurs."

Huge boost

While it is true that Bamford has not exactly been at his best so far this season, failing to hit the back of the net in any of his ten Premier League appearances - something that can be largely attributed to his lack of fitness - the return of the striker for Saturday's trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will nevertheless come as a huge boost to Jesse Marsch.

Indeed, despite his lack of goals, the £10m forward has still proven to be an extremely effective focal point in the Leeds attack at points this season, most notably in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal and the 2-1 win over Liverpool.

Against the Gunners, the £10.5m-rated attacker proved something of a game-changer upon his introduction at half-time, taking three shots at goal - the most of any Leeds player - and was incredibly unfortunate to see an equalising goal ruled out for a foul on Gabriel Magalhaes - with David Seaman stating of his display: "As soon as he came on [Leeds] looked totally different."

Bamford made a similar impact against Liverpool, as, despite enjoying just 14 touches of the ball and completing a mere five passes over his 38 minutes on the pitch, the £35k-per-week talent's movement in the box resulted in him setting up Crysencio Summerville's dramatic 89th-minute winner at Anfield.

As such, while the one-cap international may not be the Whites' main source of goals this season as he was in 2020/21, Bamford is still an extremely effective player in Marsch's attacking arsenal - with his potential return for the meeting with Spurs this weekend undoubtedly providing Leeds with a huge boost to their chances of securing a result in north London.
