Leeds United saw their busy summer transfer window draw to a close in a very hectic fashion.
After bringing in a wave of new players throughout the window such as Marc Roca, Tyler Adams, Rasmus Kristensen and Luis Sinisterra, among others, the White had a rather interesting deadline day as they also secured a deal for Wilfried Gnonto but missed out on Bamba Dieng.
Despite the situation with Dieng, another player Leeds missed out on signing that we feel has been a big mistake from Victor Orta is Cody Gakpo.
With 207 appearances for PSV Eindhoven under his belt across their senior and youth sides, the winger has scored 76 goals and provided 50 assists along the way.
His previous domestic campaign saw Gakpo score 12 goals and deliver 12 assists in 27 league games, showing just how much of an attacking threat he is.
In fact, only three players in the entire league managed to end the season with a higher rate of shots per game than the PSV star (3.78).
This season has seen the 23-year-old start the campaign in hot form by netting six goals and supplying three assists in just four league appearances.
His overall performances have earned him an outrageous season rating of 9.11/10, making him the highest-rated player in the Eredivisie according to WhoScored.
Taking all of this into account, and the fact that Leeds not only saw Raphinha wave goodbye to Elland Road for a move to Barcelona earlier in the window, but also saw Dan James make a deadline day move to Fulham on loan, this only further exposes the need for the Whites to have landed Gakpo when they had the chance.
Moving forward, it seems as though Jesse Marsch will have to make do with the players he has at his disposal for now and hope they can help the club have a successful season.
However, bearing in mind how impressive Gakpo has proved himself to be, if an opportunity arises to sign him either in January or the next summer transfer window, Leeds should be all over it.
